Wild mushrooms taste great, and there are countless varieties to suit every taste, even for people who don't normally like mushrooms. But choosing the right mushrooms for the table can be risky if you don't have the right knowledge.
This full day event begins with a visual presentation and instruction on wild mushroom foraging. The presentation is a show and tell that will help you stay safe when choosing wild mushrooms to eat.
Afterwards, you'll head out for a hike in the forest for a mushroom hunt. If the picking is good, you'll get to taste the harvest. But don't worry if conditions aren't ideal. There will be samples to demonstrate mushroom preparation techniques and for tasting.
Be sure to wear proper footwear and clothing for the forest hike. It can be buggy so there will be bug jackets provided if you don't have your own. We insist that you do not wear bug repellent or any other fragrances or scents, including clothing that has been washed using fabric softeners. This is a fragrance-free event. You should also bring along a basket and small knife for collecting mushrooms and other forest finds.
The workshop cost is $80.00 plus HST/admin and includes snacks and lunch, a mushroom tasting, and some wild mushrooms to take home.
In 2019, these workshops will be held on May 18, June 15, July 27, August 24, and September 21. There is a limit of 10 participants per session. Tickets will be available two months in advance.
